Hermione Johnson
Hermione Johnson plays prepared piano. Her music centres on extended and prepared piano techniques, focusing on the timbral qualities of the instrument, and drawing out a range of voices with contrasting patterns and phrases in different registers. She plays locally with the Jazz giants of NZ - Jeff Henderson, Chris O'Connor, Anthony Donaldson and Reuben Derrick.
Her solo album 'Tremble' was released in 2020 under the New York imprint Relative Pitch Records and was named one of the year's 'best solo recordings' by New York City Jazz Record.
Reuben Derrick
A deep listening clarinetist and saxophonist whose work encompasses a diverse range of musical languages. His compositions include works for jazz orchestra, small ensembles and improvisational groups as well as electroacoustic works that focus on environmental sound. Rueben also collaborates with artists from other cultural traditions and disciplines including dancers, painters, poets, sculptors and film-makers. In recent years Reuben's musical adventures have taken him to Colombo, Warsaw, Vienna, Ljubljana, Zagreb, Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland. Back home he is always busy with a smorgasbord of sound makers and other artists.
Sewage
'Sewage first gained notoriety in 2009 after winning the Otago Rockquest, facing petty public criticisms by members of loser bands upset at Sewage’s high level of creativity and energy.
Since those heady teenage times, Sewage has become a favourite of the NZ experimental underground, performing at festivals such as Lines of Flight and Nowhere!, at legendary Wellington venue the Pyramid Club and making regular appearances in their hometown of Dunedin.
Sewage play shows in Christchurch, Oamaru and Dunedin with differing lineups of sonic fascinators.'
