Chicago based artist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Andrew Paley, plays his first ever show in New Zealand this March.
Known for his work with The Static Age, Paley came out of the early 2000s emo, punk, post-punk and hardcore scenes and has been releasing music for over 20 years now, with his most recent solo album being Scattered Light in 2020.
With a sound that has garnered comparisons along the way to Peter Gabriel, Elliott Smith and The Cure, Paley has toured and worked with the likes of Matt Squire (Panic! At The Disco, Taking Back Sunday, All Time Low), AFI, The Explosion, Texas is the Reason, Bob Nanna of Braid, and many more.
Paley will be supported by Ha the Unclear and Mali Mali.
Originating in the gothic harbour town of Ōtepoti Dunedin, Ha the Unclear then all moved to Auckland where they went from being a bedroom based routine into the highly popular real life four-piece ensemble that they are today. Ha the Unclear’s knack for creating thoughtful, mind-bending stories have seen them gather acclaim from everyone from the BBC to Entertainment Weekly. Their lyrical stories include a love story from the perspective of a coffee table, astronauts trapped in orbit, and a break-up via an intercom. The band has compacted these wonderful thought nuggets into energetic, quirky pop songs and a spirited live show which has seen them tour with Courtney Barnett, support The Shins, Dandy Warhols, and others, and perform at all number of festivals; Rhythm & Vines, CubaDupa, Nostalgia Festival, Cross St Festival, Newton Festival and more.
Over the last decade Auckland based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Ben Tolich, aka Mali Mali, has made an art form out of pursuing minimalism in song, with his most recent release being the Spirit Tide album in 2023. Mali Mali been placed within the same tradition as New Zealand post-punk and oddball pop artists such as Peter Jefferies, Alaistair Gailbraith, and Bill Direen and at times has also also been located in a world akin to the free-flowing alternative country of Wilco and the ambient post-rock of Talk Talk.
