Tuesday 5th January, 2016 10:00AM

Iconic folk musician Michael Hurley is headed to New Zealand next week for three shows across the country. Central to the Greenwich folk scene in the 1960s and 70s, Hurley has been releasing music consistently through the decades and is celebrating his 74th birthday as he tours downunder this summer.

Touring New Zealand on the back of sold out shows in Australia as part of the Sydney Arts Festival, he will open Kurt Vile's sold out show in Queenstown before making his way north via Chicks Hotel in Dunedin for a free show at Aotea Square in Auckland. Here are the full details followed by an excellent live session recorded June of last year...

PRESS RELEASE:

New Zealand get ready. The inimitable, and extremely influential Michael Hurley who turned 74 years old at the end of December, is celebrating his birthday with his first ever trip to our shores.

Selling out intimate club shows in Australia and performing as part of the annual Sydney Arts Festival, Michael brings his unique brand of outsider folk to New Zealand this January for shows in Queenstown, Port Chalmers and Auckland.

Hurley, a highly acclaimed artist, who NYC’s Village Voice magazine once described as “the greatest folk musician of the rock era” will open for Kurt Vile at a sold out show at the Sherwood Hotel in Queenstown, and then perform as a headline artist at Port Chalmers infamous Chicks Hotel, before heading to Auckland to play a free show as part of Auckland Live’s “Summer in the Square” series at Aotea Square.

Don’t miss this opportunity to catch Hurely in New Zealand for his first, and almost certainly last shows he’ll play in this Country.

Thursday 14th January, The Sherwood Hotel, Queenstown (sold out)
Saturday 16th January, Chicks Hotel, Port Chalmers, Dunedin (ticket from UTR)
Sunday 17th January, Aotea Square, Auckland (free)
