Weekly Round Up: Friday 29th September

Friday 29th September, 2017 6:20PM

The tour announcements have been flowing this week from all across the musical spectrum, including Japanese rock n roll hellraisers Guitar Wolf, synthesizer maestros Future Islands, indie-folk legends Fleet Foxes and ambient-pop quartet Cigarettes After Sex. Boogie aficionados were stoked to learn of US dance queen Nite Jewel and Wellington's Lord Echo hitting the road and hip hop heads rejoiced over the disclosure of rhyme slinging MCs Vince Staples, A$AP Ferg and D.R.A.M all gracing us with New Zealand shows. Saxophone virtuoso Kamasi Washington and sitar shredder Anoushka Shankar were added to the Womad line up and round two of the fun-filled I Love The 90s tour, featuring Blackstreet, C+C Music Factory and Naughty By Nature, was announced.

Stellar releases this week included the eponymous first single from Roy Irwin's forthcoming King Of Pop album. Canadian post-rock royalty Godspeed You! Black Emperor dropped their sixth album Luciferian Towers while slacker pop double whammy Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile shared a charming tune and video called 'Continental Breakfast'. Closer to home Dunedin duo Astro Children shared a new single called 'Straight For My Heart' and Lips unleashed a glorious cover of Beyonce's 'Hold Up', accompanied by an excellent self-shot video. And on the re-issue front the Yeah Yeah Yeahs announced the re-release their debut album Fever To Tell along with a sneaky teaser track 'Phone Jam' and a unreleased track called 'Shake It' which isn't currently able to be streamed here (dumb!).

In celebration of her taking home her second Silver Scroll award, this week's Caught Live is Lorde's delightful rendition of the Phil Collins classic 'In the Air Tonight' in BBC's Live Lounge.
