Weekly Roundup: Friday 15th November
Announcement highlights for the week included UK folk-punk songwriter Frank Turner is returning to Aotearoa for two solo events alongside Being. in April 2020, Florida death metal masters Obituary revealed they'll be supported by Singapore grindcore bruisers Wormrot in Auckland and Wellington this January, Alberta's Scott Cook is journeying to NZ to play an extensive run of summer shows, and none other than French-English avant-pop innovators Stereolab are heading our way to regale us with their killer tunes in March. On the local artist tip, Tāmaki Makaurau's Racing are gearing up for a summer tour of Aotearoa, joined for a hefty chunk of dates by rock n rollers Mini Simmons, rising Geraldine songwriter Foxtrots is about to embark on extensive national tour, and X Features (fka pioneering Tāmaki Makaurau art-punks The Features) are returning to local stages this month to play a special Waiheke Island headline event.
Annabel Kean caught up with Tāmaki Makaurau hip hop supernovas Church & AP about their hugely anticipated debut album Teeth which dropped today – check out their convo and open your ears to the record here. Chris Cudby got on the blower with Milan Borich of recently revived Aotearoa alt-rockers Pluto, who unveiled their first album in over a decade this week – you can read their chat detailing the many twists and turns of Pluto's journey towards their new record IV here, and join the band at their spring reunion events, tonight in Wellington and at Auckland's Hollywood Avondale next week. We also shared the latest episode of our ongoing UTR Caught Live video series – experience electrifying footage of Te Whanganui-a-Tara political punks Unsanitary Napkin throwing down their awesome new song 'Inert' to a super psyched Whammy Bar crowd right here.
Our Caught Live video for the week features globetrotting ex-Tāmaki Makaurau maniacs The Cavemen, returning to their homeland in December to lay waste to stages across the North Island with their thug-punk anthems.
