Listen To Motte's New Album 'Cold + Liquid'
Recent collaborator with Luke Buda and Jim Nothing, plus soon to be tour mate with Don McGlashan and The Others, Ōhinehou / Lyttelton-based violinist and composer Motte aka Anita Clark launched her new album Cold + Liquid late last week via influential US imprint Ba Da Bing! Records. Presently livening up student radio airwaves with atmospheric single 'Plateau', Motte's first long player in five years initially arose from instrumental origins, before being reimagined with singing following the artist's recovery from vocal cord paralysis — as explained in Bruce Russell's illuminating liner notes we encourage you to read HERE.
Recorded by Thomas Lambert (Sonorous Circle) and co-produced by Clark with Ben Edwards, Cold + Liquid utilises such diverse instruments / sound sources as shortwave / longwave radio, a handmade Pūrerehua pūoro, and field recordings from both Oamaru Freezing Works and South Christchurch environmental site Sign of the Bellbird ("bellbirds, rolling boulders, snapping sticks, thrown dirt and the papery sound of the native harakeke plant") — along with synth, guitar and violin throughout — to conjure a remarkably stunning and otherworldly listening experience. Sure to reemerge in local end of year lists, order your own vinyl LP edition of Cold + Liquid HERE and hit play below...
'Cold + Liquid' is out now digitally and on vinyl LP via Ba Da Bing! Records.
