Distinguished New Zealand pianist Joan Havill studied at the Royal College of Music with Cyril Smith, and later with Nadia Boulanger, Ilona Kabos and Louis Kentner. She had a successful performing career, touring with major orchestras and appearing in recital around the world. In recent years she has gained worldwide recognition as a teacher, and in 1996 was made Senior Professor of Piano at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Many of her students have been major prize-winners in numerous prestigious international competitions.
