For their first post-lockdown show Fortress Europe return to celebrate in the warm and familiar arms of Freida Margolis. A pungent mix of Eastern-European music traditions skillfully interwoven with a slew of modern influences, Fortress Europe is a 5 piece ensemble led by composer and multi-instrumentalist Leon Radojkovic, and features some of the most in-demand musicians in the country playing everything from violin, to guitar, to Turkish saz and accordion.
The music of Fortress Europe is the sound of the Europe you don't often hear about. Lands of vampires, vodka, pickled cabbage and strange superstitions. Frenzied fiddles from Romania, heart-breaking lamentations from Hungary and infectious rhythms from Serbia are all combined with jagged surf guitars, cinematic strings, thunderous bass, and an experimental, avant-garde sensibility.
With every exhilarating and evocative performance Fortress Europe takes the audience on a journey around the world and outside of time.
In a special one-off, the show will also feature a tribute to the late great Ennio Morricone.
