Two solo sets by two long-time explorers of plucked strings and amplifiers.
Daniel Beban (electric 12-string guitar)
Daniel Beban is a musician and sound artist. He performs on a number of different instruments solo and in groups including Orchestra of Spheres, Farewell Spit, Devils Gate Outfit, Micro Soft Voices, UMU and others. He builds sound sculptures and invented instruments out of found objects and recycled materials. Through his work as a radio sound engineer, Daniel has experimented at length with reel-to-reel tape machines. The tape machine has formed the basis of much of his electronic work, especially with Imbogodom (duo with Alexander Tucker). Guitar is his first instrument and for this concert he'll be playing electric 12-string through a early 70s Binson Echorec, an early 60s Jansen and and a late 60s Fountain.
David Long (banjo)
David Long is a musician, composer and producer. In 2020 he won best score at the APRA Silver Scrolls for the BBC drama series, The Luminaries. He composes mainly for film and television but also contemporary dance. He has worked on all of Peter Jackson’s films of the last two decades. He performs on banjo, guitar and theremin with The Labcoats and Teeth, and was a founding member of the seminal New Zealand band The Mutton Birds with whom he made 3 albums over 7 years. In the 1980s he was a member of the Braille Collective and The Six Volts. For this gig he'll be playing banjo and feedback.
