Weekly Roundup: Friday 2nd November

Weekly Roundup: Friday 2nd November

Friday 2nd November, 2018 5:57PM

The week's whizzed by and now we're 100% ready to charge into the weekend following an absolutely mega run of huge tour announcements and spellbinding musical releases. Significant shows included 2018 APRA Silver Scroll winner Marlon Williams is teaming up with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra to play songs from his breakthrough album Make Way For Love this February, Auckland Arts Festival 2019 revealed an exciting lineup of musical acts set to visit the super city in March including Beach House, Death Cab For Cutie, Neko Case and Four Tet, and South Florida rapper Denzel Curry is playing a Wellington side-show to his upcoming appearance at Auckland's St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival 2019. Flightless Records guitar slingers The Babe Rainbow are returning to the North Island from their Byron Bay home base for a summer tour in January, Dunedin guitar-pop crew Marlin's Dreaming are also zooming around the nation for an extensive January tour, and US rock gods KISS are hitting Aotearoa in late 2019 as part of the Australasian leg of their final ever worldwide tour, following more than four decades of active rock'n'roll duty - respect!

We were privileged to premiere a heavenly host of local releases including the hugely anticipated self-titled debut collection from Wellington dream-pop / post-rock collective DEAF, a gorgeously cinematic video from Auckland's She's So Rad, a futuristic club-friendly remix by Alcs of Dunedin singer and producer Dudley Benson's powerful song 'Cook Beleaguered', and the debut video from Wellington supergroup Congress of Animals, who are touring New Zealand in November, and count amongst their members international musical superstar Bret McKenzie of Flight Of The Conchords. We were stoked to lift the lid on an in-depth conversation between itinerant psychedelic-pop artist Connan Mockasin and Chris Cudby exploring the ideas orbiting his enigmatic new album Jassbusters and directorial debut Bostyn 'n Dobsyn, and a fist-pumping selection of NZ punk anthems chosen by Auckland pop-punk icons Elemeno P, whose tour of Aotearoa continues this month.

Our Caught Live video for the week is a clip showcasing international death metal supergroup Sinsaenum (featuring members of Dragonforce and Slipknot), who are bringing their tom-battering, fretboard-melting aural assault to Aotearoa, for shows at Auckland's Whammy Bar and Wellington's Valhalla in November. Wrap your eyes and ears around viciously raw recent footage of the band playing their head-hammering, rabble-rousing track 'Army Of Chaos' from 2016's Echoes of the Tortured live in Budapest, feat. vocalist Csihar Attila from Mayhem and Tormentor...
