Gig Information

Four rock bands playing Nivara Lounge: Wolf Wizard, Red Light Runners, Skinny Hobos and headliner Rebel Sound Radio.

REBEL SOUND RADIO were formed early 2015 in Hamilton New Zealand, a sleepy riverside city that has given birth to some of New Zealands biggest artists.

As both their previous bands had called it a day, a conscious decision was made by singer / guitarist / songwriter Jessie James Hanright and bass player Craig Turner to start something new and to bring a totally different sound that would set them apart.

They enlisted the help of drummer Ashley Goodare to complete the wild, untamed, three piece and set up shop writing and moulding their new found rock and roll sound.

SKINNY HOBOS are a 2-piece Alternative Rock band from Auckland, New Zealand who make far more noise than any two people should!

The Hobos have quickly earned a reputation for being the hardest working band in town. In 2015, they played more shows than there were weeks in the year, as well as recording their debut album at Neil Finn’s Roundhead Studios with engineer Nick Poortman (Ekko Park, Jason Kerrison).

They finished off the year with a very successful co-headlined North Island tour with Wellington band Bakers Eddy, and they were also featured in the December/January issue of NZ Musician Magazine.

In the summer of 2016, they are taking things further afield with shows booked all over the country including a festival performance in Central Otago, main support for American bands Radio Moscow and Kings Destroy and a performance at Demon Energy's Rock the Park 2016 in support of Shihad, Villainy and Blacklistt.

“The two impress with the gritty and full rock sound they produce with two instruments, fine harmonies and just how much fun they have on stage.” - [NZ Musician Magazine].

RED LIGHT RUNNERS are a 3 piece rock band, hailing from South Auckland. The band, in it’s current form, has been together since 2015 although an EP was released earlier under the Red Light Runners name which featured founder member and frontman Davy McIvor, who had previously played guitar in long standing Kiwi band Indifference. Following the EP release McIvor, the guitarist and lead vocalist in the band, recruited bass player Steven Pook and Scottish drummer Tam Cramer, who had recently parted company with Auckland heavy metal band Forsaken Age. With the definitive Red Light Runners line-up now complete, the threesome prepared to take the Auckland music scene by storm.

The Runners’ sound is difficult to categorise. They are very much a rock band, but they are also very much a rock band who are not afraid to push the boundaries of what they are ‘supposed’ to sound like. Their live set on any given night can showcase different musical influences and style from punk, metal, blues, funk and even reggae.

The band recently released their second 3 track EP, and are currently making plans to record a debut album. The quality of the songs and the energy of their performances is obvious to anyone who has witnessed them live and their reputation continues to grow.
