Sir Dave Dobbyn performs live at The Stables and Secret Garden, Easter Saturday, 27 March 2027.
One of the most decorated songwriters this country has produced, Sir Dave brings his full live band to Matakana with a set drawn from nearly five decades of New Zealand music. From Th' Dudes to DD Smash to a solo catalogue that has topped charts in two countries and earned him the Silver Scroll more times than any other songwriter, the songs Sir Dave Dobbyn has written and performed are ones New Zealanders have been singing their entire lives.
Hello Sailor. Formed in Ponsonby in 1975, their debut album was the first New Zealand record to be certified Gold - three Top 20 singles on release, a trip to Los Angeles that saw them opening at The Whisky and The Troubadour, and the attention of Ray Manzarek of The Doors. Gutter Black became the theme for Outrageous Fortune and introduced Hello Sailor to a generation who hadn't been born when they first took the stage. Inducted into the NZ Music Hall of Fame in 2011, and led by founding member Harry Lyon, Hello Sailor remain one of the great live bands this country has produced.
Sonar Flare. Five musicians drawn from some of the biggest bands in New Zealand rock history. Jason Kerrison is the Silver Scroll-winning frontman of Opshop. Alongside him: Hamish Gee, co-founder and drummer of The Feelers, Andy Lynch, guitarist of Zed and The Feelers. Matt Short of The Feelers and Sola Rosa. And Andy Keys, whose credits span The Feelers, Synthony, Kaylee Bell and beyond.
