Gig Information

The Audio Foundation is pleased to present two nights with Berlin based pop/disco destructivists Hunger.

For the first show Hunger are joined by surrealist performance artist Magic Steven (Melbourne), and local heroes of whack boogie Drorgan and synthpsych legend Power Nap.

Hunger - specialists for musical accidents // faulty Disco Punk

The band Hunger, currently based in Berlin, consists of Christoph Rothmeier (The Entertainers’ Dry Eye, Kröter), playing drumset, drum computer, synthesizer, trumpet and singing,
and Jörg Hochapfel (Onom Agemo & The Disco Jumpers, Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra), playing synthesizers, melodica, tambourine and singing.

Often they play music together without playing together, or they invent cruel musical rules for themselves. Sometimes this results in tightly knit songs, although with a significant blurriness. And sometimes it results in terrible accidents - these are unavoidable, but welcome, while still being terrible accidents.

„Trash is not used just as decoration, but rather constitutes the main walls.“ (taz)
„Downright, but impressive destruction.“ (DJ Mauru)

Magic Steven is a Melbourne-based artist, whose work has been described at various times as autobiographical storytelling, deadpan comedy, guided meditation, group therapy and long-form beat poetry. He has performed around Australia at festivals including the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, MONA's 'Dark Mofo' festival in Tasmania, Liquid Architecture, the Melbourne Fringe Festival, White Night, the Inland Concert Series and Blindside Festival. Internationally he has performed in cities such as Berlin, Paris, Moscow, Athens, Tbilisi, Stockholm and London. In 2016-17 he established a popular ongoing monthly night at the Trades Hall in Melbourne, writing and performing a new show once a month, about whatever happens in his life each month, with special guest musicians and DJ's appearing at each show. He is also a visual artist, creating black and white ink drawings which have been collected in a number of self-published books.
