Weekly Roundup: Friday 2nd August

Weekly Roundup: Friday 2nd August

C.C. / Friday 2nd August, 2019 6:05PM

We were laser-focussed on keeping you up to date with the breaking news as it happened this musical week, which delivered a tonne of significant show announcements and releases to keep us amped for the warmer months ahead. Monday kicked off with the thrilling announcement that Canadian indie hero Mac DeMarco is wending his way back to Aotearoa in early January 2020, to play a special all ages Auckland Town Hall show supported by our own Fazerdaze – DeMarco's first headline event in four years.

Dwellers on the dark side would've been cackling with delight at this week's revelations. Legendary Manowar co-founder Ross The Boss is heading our way with band for a fist-pumping three date tour this November, New Orleans sludge metal pioneers Eyehategod will be hitting Aotearoa for two sonically intense North Island events also in November, and US thrash metal veterans Sacred Reich and Vio-Lence are joining forces to unleash a barrage of devastating riffage in Auckland and Wellington in March 2020. If you want to get your ears pummelled in an entirely different way, Tāmaki Makaurau punk dynamos Miss June are playing a pair of North Island release events for their forthcoming debut album Bad Luck Party in September. For those who for some reason don't want to be destroyed by steamrolling riffage at all, Auckland alt-pop crew Pluto are making their long-awaited return to local stages in November, playing launch parties in Auckland and Wellington for their forthcoming studio album IV. Finally, we kicked off our Friday with the headline-grabbing announcement that once-banned from NZ rap superstar Tyler, The Creator – who dropped his killer latest album IGOR in May – will be headlining summer festival Bay Dreams in both Mount Maunganui and Nelson at the very start of 2020.

Surely next week couldn't get any more exciting than that?! ... ;)

Our Caught Live video for the week showcases the work of Brisbane death metal bruisers Disentomb, who are touring their brand new album The Decaying Light across Aotearoa in August, with headline events lined up for Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Succumb to skull-crushingly intense recent footage of the four-piece tearing through their brutal track 'Vultures Descend' from 2014's Misery at Death Night III in Rennes, France, as you count the days until Disentomb's arrival...
