Fontaines D.C. Share New Album 'Dopamine Chamber'
Back on our shores this summer to headline Laneway 2027 festival, Fontaines D.C.'s fifth studio album Dopamine Chamber arrives with the aura of an event. Swirling together post-punk, industrial rock / electronica, shoegazey squall, darkness-tinted panoramic balladry (reminding theses ears at times of The Verve and / or Marc Almond) and even New Order adjacent synth-pop with grebo-like boisterous energy, the Dublin superstars sound like they've reached their imperial era, each stylistic swerve striking anthemic gold.
This diversity is very much the point of Dopamine Chamber, conceived by the group as a stimulating suite of "different mind- or mood-altering pieces of music" for listeners to immerse themselves within. Spanish pop-star Rosalía tags in for sweeping Morricone-like duet 'Where Is Gone?', sounding not worlds away from Aotearoa's own Jonathan Bree and Princess Chelsea. Frontman Grian Chatten's vocal powers are in gobsmacking form, meeting or even surpassing the kaleidoscopic ambitions of bandmates Conor Curley, Conor Deegan III, Tom Coll and Carlos O'Connell — disarmingly tender, rabble-rousingly rowdy, and many shades in between.
Recorded with James Ford who also produced their 2024 hit Romance, Fontaines D.C.'s new long player is out now at your friendly local record store on vinyl LP and compact disc via XL Recordings. Enter Dopamine Chamber and holler along when they return to Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland on 21st February...
