Punk It Up VI Lineup Announced ft. Desperate Measures, X-Features, Proud Scum, Wolfpack (AUS), bankRobbers, Cootie Cuties, Kerfuffle + More
Firmly established as an Aotearoa New Zealand punk rock tradition, the lineup for Punk It Up VI could be the community get-together's most ambitious to date. Staging a Full Whammy Total Takeover in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland on 8th May, Punk It Up VI will sprawl across three rooms with around two dozen live acts, plus there'll be an official Curtain Raiser gig the night before at Whammy Bar.
The multi-generational bill for Punk It Up VI is a total knockout, and of course there'll be DJ's spinning tunes to keep the energy rowdy throughout the night. Local legends playing this year include UK-based Ōtautahi punk veterans Desperate Measures, AK79 icons Proud Scum, X-Features and covers supercombo bankRobbers, who'll be joined by such upstarts as Cootie Cuties, Bloodbags, Grown Downz from Tauranga, Tim Mahon's Kerfuffle, Pōneke metal mavericks Bulletbelt playing a punk covers set, Naarm thrash-punks Wolfpack, and that's just the tip of the iceberg with even more to be announced. Make your way to Punk It Up VI this coming May — here's the official intel...
"Punk It Up VI bands include the triumphant return of Desperate Measures, originally from the early 80's in ChCh, who have been rocking the faces off unsuspecting members of the general public in the UK and Europe for the last 10 years plus, and decided it was time for a trip home. Estalished acts like Proud Scum, the super-duper cool Cootie Cuties, Welly metalheads Bulletbelt (doing a punk covers set!!!), X-Features, Dead Simple, Wolfpack (from Aussie), and the "Punk It Up House Band" bankRobbers, closing the night with a ton of sing-along tunes, with a plethora of special guests joining them, performing waita i tangata whenua, from over the years.
There's a bunch more they're still working out final details with, and those will be joined by a bunch of newer Aotearoa bands such as Cthulus, Fork, Bloodbags, Kerfuffle, Grown Downz, - the list goes on and on, and, as stated above, because PIU Mission Control have untold other acts ready to confirm, we're gonna need to do a "curtain raiser" gig on the Friday May 7th, before the whole kit-and-kaboodle on Saturday May 8th.
Loads of bands, two events. DJs Miss Dom, Dubhead, Phil A, SiCoff, DJ Flaming Telepath, and more, will be spinning tunes throughout the night, and PIU MC are even gonna have an art show and info booths in the Public Bar, .....this ain't your mother's "bunch of bands on stage" gig, it's Punk It Up!"
