Arturo Baez / Blair Latham Quartet w/ Tyson Smith (gtr), Rick Cranson (dms) and special guest Anton Wuts (sax)
Arturo and Blair began their musical journey together when Blair moved to Mexico
City in 2010 and became an integral part of the jazz and improv scenes. Both being
in demand players, they were inevitably thrown together in many of the top
creative projects that performed at the main jazz clubs of the day (El Zinco,
Jazzatlan, Jazzorca). Since Blair moved back to NZ in 2014 they have maintained a strong musical connection, and look forward to sharing their original compositions and improvisations played with local legends Tyson and Rick with New Zealand audiences.
Arturo Báez is a Mexican double bassist and electric bassist whose music moves between jazz, free improvisation and spontaneous collective creation. For more than 15 years, he has been an active presence in Mexico’s improvised music scene, collaborating with internationally acclaimed artists including Ken Vandermark, Joe Morris, Chris Corsano, Michael Zerang, Sam Newsome and Isaiah Collier. His international work includes performances at the No Idea Festival in Austin and across the United States, Europe and Asia. He is a member of the Remi Álvarez Trio and leads Otrora un Simulacro, an original jazz ensemble that features his compositions.
