Gig Information

Better Living is back for its second year running! Bigger* and Better** than ever!

Bands are:

• INVISIBLE THREADS (Auckland) - 11:30pm
• THE HEX WAVES (Christchurch) - 10:45pm
• CENTRE NEGATIVE (Auckland) - 10:00pm
• DARK MATTER (Christchurch) - 9:15pm
• SLUG GUN (Little Town) - 8:30pm

$10 ON THE DOOR! TERRIBLY GOOD VALUE! FIRST BAND ON AT 8.30 SHARP SO COME EARLY!

*Actually there are less bands this year in the Christchurch contingent, but there’s an Auckland show and who is going to argue that this isn’t the best lineup for a local you’ve seen for years.
**really this is going to be something special

CENTRE NEGATIVE was the solo project of Michael McClelland, formerly of Team Ugly, but he has now given birth to a lovely big band of misfits playing his fucked up brand of social anxiety punk-zonk. There’s 7 of them and four of them play casiotones. Essential listening: The smash hit, ‘Secretly He’s A Racist’: http://meltedicecream.bandcamp.com/track/secretly-hes-a-racist

INVISIBLE THREADS are about to release a brand new album through Melted Ice Cream and on their second ever visit to Christchurch they are bringing down a whopping fifteen modular synthesizers to all make wonderful, faster-than-average-tempo-for-your-average-band-of-punks, geek trash, good shit-zonk. Essential listening: A new single from their upcoming album ‘Oxide’, which WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT THE GIG! : http://invisiblethreads.bandcamp.com/track/zs

HEX WAVES are a party in themselves; Christchurch’s favourite brand of danceable Swamp-Zonk. Last year they won the prestigious Goth’s Choice Award at the Fetish Ball. Smoke machines aplenty. Essential Listening: https://www.youtube.com/watchv=pnAiNCl-uR4

DARK MATTER will bring a chill to your spine. Featuring a number of Christchurch’s most dedicated unsuccessful rockstars, this band is the current songwriting outlet of Stephen Cogle of Vacuum, The Victor Dimisich Band and The Terminals. Dark Matter was the Christchurch sound before you were even born. Someone on the internet called this the ‘late’ style of New Zealand post-punk – I agree: gothic zonk aplenty. Essential listening: Their self-titled album: https://midheaven.com/item/st-by-dark-matter-lp#.Vzj8-5F96Uk

SLUG GUN are a relatively new act featuring the best members of Motte, Asian Tang and Pine, and their sound has been described as terrifying, enlightening and otherworldly. A very loopy zonk band, SLUG GUN are a new entry into the zonk-players club, and will have driven through a tunnel to pleasure your hear-holes. Essential listening: Just come to the gig and you’ll fuckin’ love it.

$10 ON THE DOOR! What an electrifying price!
