Phil Dadson At 80 - 8 x 10 Auckland Concerts Announced

Groundbreaking founder of From Scratch and leading light / mentor for multiple generations of local innovators, Audio Foundation are cheering the 80th birthday of Aotearoa sonic pioneer Philip Dadson ONZM with a four part concert series. Featuring performances by the artist himself with different lineup configurations each evening, 8x10 - Phil Dadson At 80 is taking place this weekend and next (Fridays and Saturdays) at the aforementioned hub, just down Poynton Terrace from the new Karanga-a-Hape Station.

Recipient of such prestigious accolades as the New Zealand Arts Foundation Laureate and an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (for services to art), Dadson is the sound art legend who walks amongst us. Dadson's multidisciplinary oeuvre has encompassed performance, recordings, installation, sculpture, film works and more, his back catalogue including significant releases via Flying Nun Records and Rattle Records.

Rightly hailed as "a seminal figure in New Zealand’s art history", Dadson was the influential founder and Head of Intermedia / Time-based arts at Auckland University’s Elam School of Fine Arts from the mid-'80s until the turn of the millennium (for an idea of how patient with his students he was, we recommend reading Megan Dunn's Things I Learned at Art School).
