Listen to Out Of Luck's New Album 'PLEASE LEAVE THE TV ON!'
Wearer of many musical hats, Ōtepoti sonic powerhouse Reef Brazendale — member of Bunchy’s Big Score and Sick of You, plus he plays with Sivle Talk, Fastplant and Vagina Dry — has unveiled the fourth long-player in four years from his "punky pop" project Out Of Luck. Busting out affectingly fuzz-drenched dynamics like a southern Superchunk on recent single 'SUSPICION', Out Of Luck's latest opus PLEASE LEAVE THE TV ON! could be your soundtrack to kicking about suburban skate parks this summer. Brazendale makes intentions clear from the drop on lead in tune 'DAY IN THE LIFE': "Talk some shit / Behave like a fucking idiot / But what can you do / You get in trouble when there's nothing to do."
Recorded with Hamish Waddell over just four days, this immediacy and rawness is crucial to the mind-roaming feel of PLEASE LEAVE THE TV ON!, packing an inordinate amount of enviably catchy hooks and sneakily smart, heart on sleeve lines into ten tracks under twenty five minutes in total. Brazendale yowls "The sasquatch must be real / 'Cause he knows how I feel" on 'SKATE RAT', brings a triumphant emotive ruckus which would make Elemeno P throw in the towel on 'SUBURBAN KINGS', and asserts "Surfing wasn't gay until I made it gay / And I'm the best surfer in the world" on the Ramonesy 'GAY SURFING'.
Launched late last week via Softball Lane, Out of Luck are already in the thick of their PLEASE LEAVE THE TV ON! nationwide tour, teaming up with Wellington party punk ambassadors DARTZ this week in Ōtautahi and at The Crown, and playing at Punkfest this Saturday. Crank it up and get rowdy with Out of Luck...
"The 4th out of Luck Album is 4 Years! Fuck yeah, I was stoked to make this album with Hamish. We Recorded it over 4 days but I think it was only about 13 hours all up. It's a fun party punk album ya know? Girls, skateboarding, Sasquatch and UFOs.
I called this Album "Please leave the TV on" Because I fall asleep to my tv playing YouTube every night And it's always videos about bigfoot and Aliens n shit and all that stuff Kinda made it in my lyrics this time round. I hope that this album is a good album to drive around on a sunny day to. My goal was just to make a fun Pop Punk album I didn't really have a break up or anything to write about just tales of my youth, skateboarding and my Sasquatch obsession. Thanks." - Reef Brazendale
