Memory Foam Unleash New Album 'MF!' + Video 'Stress'

One of Aotearoa's best bands right now — on stage and on the airwaves — are sci-fi punks Memory Foam. Four years has flashed by in the blink of an eye since their debut album Steel Magnolias, but the Tāmaki Makaurau team have kept the energy high the whole time with a steady string of SRN hits and killer gigs. Recorded Roundhead Studios by De Stevens and produced by the band with Michael Logie (bassist for Classic Record-winners The Mint Chicks), MF! is fully worth the wait, pared to essentials yet incredibly densely packed.

Memory Foam's hyper-punk palette mutates into thrilling new shapes on the ten track long player, bundling together all recent singles plus six fresh tunes. Singer Yuko Miyoshi relatably howls "I don't want to die from work" on the explosively urgent 'Stress', 'Beautiful Girl' combines brain-squashing metallic dirge with heavy-psych pyrotechnics, 'Great Upheaval' calls for revolutionary action with locked-in riff attack and volcanic guitar / synth outbursts, while 'Tiger Squirrel landing' offers fully unexpected Tangerine Dream-like ambiance. Doing an impressive horse race caller impression on 'Tony's Lollipop', Grecco Romank's Mikey Sperring returns to the mic for down and dirty warped duet 'Street Lover', and the cyber-dance-punk title track ties a fangs-baring ribbon on the whole shebang.

Out today on vinyl LP, Memory Foam are cheering the launch of MF! with a free 95bFM Drive Island performance at The Beer Spot Morningside with Sulfate on 30th October, plus they'll be supporting Japanese punk legends Shonen Knife at Whammy Bar on 8th November. Watch the fiery new video for 'Stress' below (enrol to vote at vote.nz), tuck into MF! and go catch Yuko Miyoshi, Samantha Webb, Rory Dunne, Guy Innes, and Samuel Moore letting rip live...
